| NHS History The Fellowship of Christian Athletes National High School Lacrosse Team started in 2004 as a part of the Community Ministry of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA.) While the faces of the participants have changed over the years, the purpose of the team still remains the same, sharing Christ.
In the past four years there has been tremendous growth in the National High School Lacrosse Team ministry program. In the coming pages you will see the transformation from one tryout in the Baltimore area serving 40 kids in 2004 to over 12 tryouts in 10 cities serving over 500 kids in 2007. The teams themselves have consisted of players from all over the country who have received accolades such as, All-Conference, All-County, All-State and several All-Americans. Upon graduating from high school, players have also gone onto have successful college careers.
2004 - The first ever tryout for the team was held in June of 2004 in Baltimore, MD. Forty-five players attended the tryout of which 24 was chosen for the team. The team met in Parkton, MD for three days of training camp before heading off to the Toplax Recruiting Invitational at Dickinson College. Upon the conclusion of the tournament the team traveled to Gettysburg, PA to serve for five days as junior huddle leaders at FCA’s lacrosse camp. While there they played an exhibition game against a club team from Baltimore as well as a game in front of the entire camp against the staff. The final leg of the tour led them to Annapolis, MD to play in the FCA/Outback One Way 2 Play Tournament. When the final whistle blew that Sunday the team had completed a 13 day tour.
2005 – FCA again held one tryout in Baltimore for the National High School team. The amount of participants that tried out nearly doubled with 82 players coming out for the team. As a result FCA formed two teams. The two teams again went on a tour competing in both exhibitions and tournaments. The teams competed in the Toplax Recruiting Invitational in Lancaster, PA as well as the 1812 Shootout Tournament in Sacketts Harbor, NY. In between the two tournaments the teams played exhibitions with some of the best club teams on the East Coast including a night game in Rochester, NY against the Western Empire team under the lights at Irondequoit High School.
2006 – With the success of the previous year’s tryouts, more tryouts were added. Tryouts were held in Baltimore, Boston, Columbus, Denver, Long Island, Rochester, Salisbury, and San Diego. As the result of adding new tryout locations 180 kids were able to tryout for the team. Forty-three players were chosen to play on two separate teams. The Jr. National Team competed in the Battle of the Hotbeds at the University of Delaware while the National Team competed at the first ever Tournament of Champions held at Gettysburg College.
2007 – Throughout the months of January and February FCA saw the amount of try-out participants increase 270% as 510 players tried out for the FCA National High School Lacrosse Team. FCA hosted 12 tryouts for the National High School Lacrosse Team. Tryouts were held in Baltimore, Boston, Columbus, Denver, Downingtown, Long Island, Pittsburgh, Rochester, Salisbury and San Diego.*
The top 40 players were selected to play on two different teams on the National High School Tour. They spent four days playing and traveling together from Maryland to Pennsylvania to New York playing exhibitions games that led up to a three game series for each team with the Ontario Edge!
In addition to the 40 players selected for the National High School Tour, an additional 31 boys were selected to play on two teams that competed in the Brine Team Challenge at Hobart College, while 98 players were placed on regional teams from their tryouts and entered into the Gait Cup at Gettysburg College.

2008- From the months of April to June, FCA in partnership with adidas held 16 tryouts in 14 different cities. Tryout participants grew from 510 players to over 700 in 2008. The tryout locations were Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Greensboro, Long Island NY, Los Angles, Orlando, Princeton, Rochester, San Francisco, Washington DC.*
The top 20 players were selected for the 2008 FCA National High School Team. The team meet in Rochester, NY for practice and an exbition game against the Rochester Blaze. The team then traveled up to Toronto, Canada to face the Ontario Edge in a three game series for the North American Cup. The team finished 4-0 beating the Edge Senior team three times and the Junior Team once to reclaim the North American Cup.
