Team FCA Featured Player: Jordan Kenney
by Lorie Johnson

Senior lacrosse player Jordan Kenney has Philippians 4:13 written on his helmet and much more of God’s word written on his heart.

Kenney is president of the FCA huddle at Virginia Wesleyan College in Virginia Beach, Virginia and says FCA helps him and his fellow athletes stay focused on Christ.

"Constantly staying in the Word and staying in the huddle and surrounding yourself with the right people allows you to keep yourself grounded," he said. "With lacrosse there are so many things that go on in the season that it’s very easy to get wrapped up in all those things. FCA allows you to keep things in perspective and not get carried away. And from the lacrosse standpoint, it has helped me realize that there is more to play for than winning or a team in general. It’s been a big help."

Kenney played on FCA Lacrosse’s One Way to Play tournament while in high school at Mount St. Joseph in Baltimore, Maryland. He later interned with FCA lacrosse in college.

He says FCA Lacrosse has helped him get his playing priorities in order: God first, family second, team third, and self last.

"I got that through working the camps and huddle," he said. "What they were trying to do for the kids at camps reached me, as well."

His experiences as an intern and with his huddle also helped him stay focused on Christ during the ups and downs of his college career. He spent a trying freshman season at Greensboro College. His great-grandmother died during the season and he missed a week of practice.

"That was a very trying time," he said. "I was able to look to the Lord for strength and guidance. He was with me and walked me through all of that. The Lord is always stable."

He transferred to Virginia Wesleyan after just one year at Greensboro and immediately made an impact. He started out at first midfield and was moved to attack later that season. Now, three years later, he’s scored in almost every game this season and is ranked third nationally in goals.

"It is amazing and a great chance from the Lord to have been able to come here and make a difference," he said.
